The exams are fast approaching and hopefully they will all go well for everyone. If anybody as any comments on the Business papers could you please email your comments to the following teachers who will be compiling a report of BSTAI comments on the exam for the SEC.

Junior Certificate Business Studies Questionnaire

We want to survey BSTAI members on their opinions of any changes that might be made in the new Junior Certificate Business Studies syllabus. The new Junior Certificate will be a common paper so it is expected that changes are likely and we would like to represent our members views on any changes that are proposed.

The BSTAI will be represented as one of a ten person syllabus committee convening most likely in September. Could you please fill out the following questionnaire so that we can represent your views. Thank you.

CIMA National Quiz Final

The National Final of the CIMA Schools Quiz will take place in LIT Tipperary, Thurles Campus on Wednesday, the 10th of April 2013 at 2 p.m. There will be 10 rounds of 10 questions in the Quiz, a mixture of Business studies and general knowledge questions. Best of luck to all the teams competing in the event.

Business Seminar with John O Connor

John O’Connor will be coming to Galway to give a talk on the Leaving Cert. Business course. The talk will take place on the 20th of March at 7.30 for 2 hours aprox. He will be focusing on 3 main areas;
• ABQ’s on units 5,6,and 7,
• Taxation and
• The EU.
The meeting will be held in in the SAC Room (Room Ca110) in the Cairnes Building NUIG . Please see below for directions to the room. Could you also spread the word as we are still trying to build on our data base of business teachers.

The J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics is located on NUI Galway’s North Campus, in the Cairnes Building on the banks of the Corrib River.

By car

Approaching from West Galway (N59)
•On entering Galway, you will pass through traffic lights in Dangan (Westwood Hotel is to your right)
•Continue on, passing Corrib Village (Baile na Coiribe) on your left. After another 200m, you will come to the NUI Galway gate. On your left inside this gate you will see a three-storey building with Georgian windows to which has been added a modern extension; this is the Cairnes Building (follow on-campus signs for “Aras Cairnes / Cairnes Building”).

Approaching from all other main routes (N6, N17, N18, N83, or N84)
•On approaching Galway, follow signs for Clifden N59.
•When you reach the Bodkin roundabout (next to the entrance to the Galway Shopping Centre), continue in the direction of Clifden N59.
•After crossing over the river Corrib, you come to a crossroads (next to Statoil garage) – there is no right turn allowed here. Instead, continue 200m through the crossroads to the next roundabout, do a full turn and come back to the crossroads, then turn left.
•Proceed slowly for about 100m. The new main entrance to NUI Galway is on your right.
•Immediately inside the gate, you will now see the Cairnes Building – an original 1930′s building with Georgian windows to which has been added a modern extension (follow on-campus signs for “Aras Cairnes / Cairnes Building”).

Accounting Revision Seminar Change of Date

An accounting revision seminar for Students will take place in LIT Tipperary on Saturday, March 9th from 10 -1. Registration will take place from 9.30- 10.

Ger O Donovan, Assistant Examiner will give the seminar and will give notes on the following topics:

Ratios
Club Accounts
Marginal Costing
Raw Material budgets
PUblished Accounts
Tabular
Depreciation cost
Incomplete records forwards method

If your students plan to attend please email caroline at carolinerosepower2010@hotmail.com with student names & numbers. Due to the late notice students can pay on the day. Students attending must be students of paid up BSTAI members. The cost of the seminar is 25 euro.
